Lois sits with her feet on her desk and Em sits with her feet on a chair identical to the one her butt’s in, her legs parallel to the floor. They’re drinking white wine from those plastic champaign glasses while in mid-conversation. The uneaten tuna sandwich sits on the desk.

“It’s a strange proposition, this job, isn’t it?” says Lois. “Yell out to the world, yer gettin' taken advantage of cuz ya can’t band together to stand up for yourselves, then act surprised when some politician sleazes out of the earth to take advantage of ya cuz ya can’t band together to stand up for yourselves...”

“We really rolled over and showed 'em our bellies, didn’t we?” Em laughs. “If there’s one thing ‘ol hierarchy Hoffa taught me, there’s a difference between union and solidarity.”

“Well, you taught her the real lesson…”

“Did I? No criminal charges.” Em looks at her little champaign glass, swishing the booze inside. “She has 18 trailers all over this city alone. Bigger than your house... Just to sit and watch picketers picketin'.”

“Em...” Lois is starting to sound like Bomn…

Em gives Lois a don’t you say it look.

Lois says it anyway, “Sleeping dogs...”

“She’s playing with billions this time.”

“Em...”

“They got their kids on that line too.” Em’s feet on the floor now. She leans closer to Lois. “Weather’s getting colder...”

Lois exhales, almost relenting. “Well?”

Em starts to grin. “Any connections you might have in the labor world Lois. Anyone with the goods on Burgess... Anyone with the goods on anyone with the goods on Burgess... Put them in touch.”

Lois exhales, definitely relenting. She tops up her own glass.

Em grins a beaming grin at her.
